Irish Deaf Society Statement on Marriage Equality

14 May 2015

Irish Deaf Society’s statement on Marriage Equality Referendum

The Irish Deaf Society seeks to achieve and promote the Equality and Rights of Deaf people in Ireland. Linking to this principle, the IDS strives to ensure that our Lesbian and Gay members of the Deaf community are not discriminated against in wider Irish society too.

We believe the institution of Marriage to be about two people who love each other and who want to make a meaningful commitment to each other. Under the Irish Constitution, Lesbian and Gay couples cannot get married and as such do not have access to equal rights.

Therefore, we call on our members and Irish voters as well to consider this principle and voting YES to the Marriage Equality Referendum on 22nd May 2015. We believe by voting YES in the incoming referendum, this means equality and human rights for everyone.

Thanking you
