In recent months, the general public have contacted the Irish Deaf Society concerning bogus street and door to door collections.
The collectors tend to have a white photocopied sheet of paper and in some instances pretend they are Deaf. As always the public are very generous and the bogus collectors have been seen collecting large sums of money.
The public description of these bogus collectors seems to follow the same pattern
- No ID
- Mostly women
- Long Black Hair
- Large Loopy Gold Earrings
- Sometimes with children
So far this year, we have been made aware of their activities in Dublin, Kilkenny, Carrick on Shannon, Cork, West Meath, Limerick and Carlow and today Wexford.
These collections are very damaging to our organisation as we have many worthy projects which all need funding and this money would greatly benefit the Irish Deaf Community.
