Post: Community Resource Officer (Full-time)
Reports to: IDS Advocacy Manager (Deaforward)
Purpose of the Job:
The Community Resource Officer will encourage and assist Deaf community groups to identity their needs, to participate in decision-making and to develop appropriate services and facilities to meet those needs. The person appointed will be expected to assist the Administrator and Manager in achieving the objectives of the Deaforward. The person appointed is expected to have relevant experience of collecting information and reporting.
Main Tasks / Activities
- To assist in implementing Deaforward activities in conjunction with the Manager and Administrator by focusing on information and research aspects of creating an effective network of Deaf organisations.
- To assist the Manager by providing information, reports and updates.
- Any other duties deemed necessary by the Manager.
Responsible for
- Assisting community groups in planning, developing, maintaining and evaluating community resources, programs and support networks
- Collecting feedback and views from Deaf service users around the country on the quality of access in various spheres of life
- Developing and evaluating strategies that encourage community participation in activities.
- Researching, analysing and assisting city/county council, town planning, corporate planning, health and environmental health department ins in developing community services policies with regards to the Deaf community
- Communicating frequently with Deaf community groups, welfare agencies, government bodies, non-government organisations and private businesses about community services such as housing, health, welfare and recreation in relation to Deaf communities.
- Helping to raise community and public awareness on Deaf issues
- Carrying out administrative work including written correspondence, preparing submissions and reports
- Maintaining and adding to an Information Base of literature and materials in Irish Sign Language
Conditions of Job
The work of the Community Resource Officer will involve considerable personal contact and travel within communities. They may be expected to attend evening meetings and occasional weekend activities
The successful candidate should also have a high knowledge of Irish Sign Language, be computer literate and have a good command of the English language.
Hours 35 hours per week; however the Community Resource Officer is expected to accept the flexible hours and overtime work to meet the demands of the development plan
Salary: Negotiable.
Contract: One year fixed term contract.
